The Orpheus Quartet is formed of Trinity Laban students Josephina Chapman, Jessica Dugard, Lydia Elderfield and Morgan Key. A relatively newly established group, the Orpheus Quartet were formed in September 2021 and are regularly coached my Michael Bochmann MBE. In autumn 2021, the Orpheus Quartet performed in masterclasses with the Piatti and Carducci Quartets, in which they received invaluable feedback. In addition to learning standard repertoire by Haydn and Beethoven, the Orpheus Quartet have worked alongside student composers at Trinity Laban, and most recently debuted ‘Turmoil’: a short, experimental piece by Charlotte Jackson, and often collaborate with other instrumentalists to perform quintet repertoire. The Orpheus Quartet enjoys bringing music to all ages and have recently organised workshops in primary schools in Gloucestershire, providing students with an introduction to music and regularly perform in care homes across London. The Orpheus Quartet have formed strong friendships through making music together, which they hope will come across in their performance today.
The Hirvi Quartet was formed in 2021 and consists of Enya Barber (violin), Congling Wu (violin), Leonardo Badila (viola) and Floora Valila (cello). Combining a broad range of musical experiences and trainings from their respective home countries, they play some of the greatest music of the classical canon as well as collaborating with contemporary composers. The young musicians have already given successful performances at the Queen's House in Greenwich and in the Peacock room as part of Trinity Laban's Lunchtime Concert Series, have performed at the Wigmore Hall and Royal Courts of Justice, and the Romanian Cultural Institute. The Hirvi Quartet are currently in residency with the Hans Keller Forum, have enjoyed receiving coaching from members of the Doric, Piatti, Carducci and Smith quartets. Being in their second year of study at the conservatoire, they are looking forward to many more projects and performances during college and beyond.
