Cirque de Pierrot is an all-women Pierrot Ensemble that focuses 20th and 21st century repertoire. The group was put together for Juliet Wallace's end of year recital in summer 2022 in which they performed the first four songs from Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire, and two songs from Joanna Lee's reworking of Hartleben's translations of Giraud's text from her song cycle Pierrot!, which was originally written for Jane Manning. The experience was so successful, that the group has decided to continue performing together, starting with both the full Schoenberg and Joanna Lee cycles based on the sad clown, Pierrot. The group's aim is to perform more work for this ensemble, especially by women and gender non-conforming composers, and showcase women performing 20th and 21st century repertoire together.
The group will perform Shoenberg's
Pierrot Lunaire complete, along with new works by Joanna Lee, at the Hearn Recital Room on
Wed 14 Dec.
