Take time out this lunchtime for a shared performance by Trinity Laban's Papillon trio and pianist Minah Lee in the beautiful surroundings of the Old Royal Naval College Chapel.

Papillon trio is a piano trio group created by students from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2022. Throughout the time, they have received coaching and masterclasses from many world-renowned musicians such as Richard Markson, the Lino’s trio and the Smith Quartet.

Yiyao (Phoebe) Lu, pianist, was born in China and started playing the piano at the age of four. She studied with William Chan (Weiling) from the junior department of Shanghai Conservatory before came to England. Phoebe went to Wells Cathedral School with a full music scholarship at the age of fifteen and then joined Trinity Laban Conservatoire with scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate study. During her study, Phoebe has been taking parts in various concerts, competitions and collaborations. For example, she has won the mid-somerset festival, being finalists in the John Longmire competition and was highly commended in the Alfred Kitchin Competition. She has also been performing in many concerts in China, Italy and England. She is now in her final year master’s study with Douglas Finch at Trinity.

Yujie Yang is a violinist from China, based in London. She first started to play the violin at the age of 5 and was admitted to Xiamen Music School in Kulangsu with the first place at the age of 6. She is actively involved and excelled in the choir, string ensemble and symphony orchestra, and in 2014 went to Germany with the school orchestra. In Beijing, where Yujie continued to study with Shengming Liang and Jing Yang during her undergraduate studies in economics. She also serves as the deputy principal of the BJFU Symphony Orchestra, which won the Gold Award of the All-Beijing University Music Festival in 2019. During her undergraduate studies, she often held chamber music concerts as the first violinist of the string quartet, and participate in the China Film Symphony Orchestra on a northwest tour in 2020. Yujie is now studying at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with Diana Cummings.

Enju Liu, she started her music journey by her mother at age 6 in Taiwan, began with the piano then she chose to play the cello. She studied the cello under Russian cellist Artem Kionstaninov and the principal cellist of Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Yihao Zhang. At 16 she was in Shenzhen Arts School for her high school course then she was invited to a U.S cello festival during the summer in 2015, then she came to London. She started her undergraduate year in Trinity Laban with Trinity scholarship from 2018 , currently studied with Richard Markson. In 2020, She held her first charity recital in Taiwan, which supported for medical worker with Covid-19. During these years she got lots of chances to play in public, such as Wigmore Hall, St. Alfege Church and The Old Royal Naval Chapel, among others.

Born in London and raised in Seoul, South Korea, Minah Lee has been playing the piano since the age of three, self-taught from thirteen till before she started her study in London. She is currently studying piano at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with Newling Scholarship under the tutelage of Deniz Gelenbe and Gabriele Baldocci. As a pianist, Minah has participated in competitions since a young age, winning various prizes. She has performed in Lansdowne Club, Royal Victoria Hotel, St James’s Church in Paddington, Old Royal Naval Chapel, and annual concerts in Seoul. She is an active pianist and accompanist with experience playing on a variety of instruments/vocals and church choir. As she continues her master’s studies at Trinity Laban, she had opportunities to deepen her repertoires with Pascal Rogé and Mikhail Kazakevich.
