CoLab 2023: Final Night, The Great Hall

FRI 24 FEB 2023, 19:30-22:30

Join us for an evening of performances celebrating the final night of CoLab 2023. There will be a great variety of genres and approaches to collaboration, and an incredible spirit and energy as the Trinity Laban community comes together.

Stories from the Inside about how our paths in life are all different. Inspired by the unusual journeys of those who have encountered the world of criminal justice, a set of new songs will be created and shared by both Trinity Laban students and members of the Irene Taylor Trust.

Afrobeat: a project deconstructs the classical canons is about music without the lens of canons. How do we offer an alternative way to look at the musical canon? Through joy and narrative.

Queer Canon is about who is being forgotten and why they are forgotten. Based upon two significant pieces of repertoire, Salve Regina from Petit Motets by Giovanni Battist Lulli (1632-1687) and Gay Guerrilla, Julius Eastman (1940-90), the project explore ways to respond to today’s society.

The second half will turn The Great Hall into a party! A Crossover Performance of Soul-train, Turntables and Rock Band shares a set of new arrangements tracing back to how our near Popular Music development envisions ‘A Better Place.’ Audiences are encouraged to come down to the floor and dance with us!
