SUN 12 FEB, 15:00-17:00
Sylvain Blassel Harp
Acclaimed harpist and conductor
Sylvain Blassel gives a recital of Schubert Lieder transcribed by Liszt.
Schubert and Liszt, two travelers on opposite sides of the world. The first, a solitary traveler on Earth, left Austria only on rare occasions. The other, a traveler with a large entourage, travelled all over Europe. But both share the same way of sailing from one mood to another, and of wandering among all the vicissitudes of the soul.
Liszt’s sixty or so transcriptions for the piano of Schubert's works do not only testify to his immense admiration, they reveal above all the extent to which Schubert was a particularly decisive inspiration for Liszt's language. Much more than simple transcriptions, these various lieder thus appear as the greatest Lieder ohne Worte that Liszt will ever have written.
