Written at the age of 16, the Octet in E-flat major, Op. 20 is one of Felix Mendelssohn’s earliest masterpieces. The piece coined a new chamber music genre and influenced the development of chamber music. The Violin Concerto in E-minor, Op.64 is a milestone piece in the concert violin repertoire, completed in Mendelssohn’s late period, and manifests his full mature musical style. The Violin Concerto arrangement for violin and string septet was released in 2021 by the current music director of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art concert programmes, Ilan Rechtman. This arrangement captures and reimagines the full orchestral sound into a chamber string sonority.
